  • Composition: ferrous fumarate, Vit. B1, folic acid, B2, C, B6, B12, D, E, calcium gluconate, copper, linoleic acid, manganese, linolenic acid, taurine.

  • The doses of Vit. C, D, E are within the recommended dietary allowance (rda) in pregnancy.
  • The doses of Vit. B1, B2, B6 and folic acid are above the rda in pregnancy.
  • No adequate human data but suggested possible association between high doses of vitamin B1 and anencephaly, of vitamin B6 and phocomelia and infantile convulsions and of folic acid and increased pregnancy complications as bleeding, prematurity fetal distress and death.
  • Calcium should not be used in 1st trimester because of potential teratogenicity.
  • Safe in the last two trimesters but reported fetal hypomagnesemia and increased muscle tone with its use.
  • No rda for copper.
  • No data about linolenic and linoleic acid in pregnancy but in general, lipids may cause placental infarctions with subsequent abortions and preterm deliveries.

  • They can be given if needed in women with poor nutritional supply but high doses of Vit. B6 inhibit lactation.
