  • The recommended dietary allowance (rda) for iron in pregnancy is 30 mg/day and for folic acid is 0.4 mg (for those with multiple pregnancy or poor folate stores is 0.5 mg/day).
  • No well controlled human data for folic acid in pregnancy but reported that high doses may cause low serum zinc levels in pregnant women leading to increased pregnancy complications as bleeding, prematurity, fetal distress and death.
