  • local treatment of dermatoses candidiasis, bacterial infection.

  • systemic use of dexamethasone in animals is associated with fetotoxic effects including reduced fetal head circumference, reduced fetal adrenal and thymus weight and reduced placental weight.
  • Topical dexamethasone is absorbed systemically and may cause fetal abnormalites if used in large amounts or for prolonged periods.
  • Nystatin has poor absorption after oral or local administration.
  • Limited human data but no association with major congenital anomalies has been reported.
  • Chlorhexidine has poor absorption after vaginal washing and very small amounts reach maternal circulation. No neonatal adverse effects have been reported when used vaginally during labor.
